The 12th Light Dragoons NREU is proud to maintain excellent relations with the modern day British Army regiment, the 9th/12th Royal Lancers. Through presentations at regimental museum days, shows of living history to the regiment and maintaining active liaison with both the Old Comrades Association and the serving officers, the Unit hopes to continue a healthy relationship with the regiment. With the kind permission of the regiment this subpage offers some information about the modern regiment and their activities.
Current Duties

The regiment is currently on a tour of duty in Germany stationed at Haig Barracks. Here the regiment is able to keep some stabled horses

Recent Duties

The 9th/12th have deployed forces to Bosnia as peackeepers, military support to civilian authorities and under the auspicies of UNHCR. They have also recently been involved in excercises at BATUS in canada playing 'opposing' forces.

Past Engagements

The recent history of the regiment includes the Gulf War as a support troop to the 16th/5th Lancers

Regimental make-up
The regiment is primarily an armoured reconnaisance regiment and is composed of 5 squadrons.
- Administration and logistics

- 4 x Sabre squadrons comprising - 2 Sultan Armoured Command Vehicles, 12 Scimitar Armoured Vehicles, 4 Striker Anti-Tank GM Launchers and 4 Spartan APCs.

Each squadron also has medical, engineering and logistic support
